One of our Label West guides is also an author ! Diane Condon-Boutier’s second book was launched on February 11th in the Panorama room at the hotel Mercure in Dieppe, Normandy. Of course, the entire Label West team was in attendance as well as many local elected officials and prominent Normandy museum curators.
This illustrated novella is situated during WW2 in Dieppe and tells the story of a ship’s cat who slips onto one of the landing craft loaded with Canadians, British and American troops headed for the beach during Operation Jubilee on August 19th, 1942.
Inspired by the true life adventures of a medal winning ship’s cat, “Spooky: the Adventure’s of a Ship’s Cat in WW2” is designed to broach the difficult subject of the Second World War through the words of a cat who learns that teamwork is essential, and that even the smallest member’s actions count.
Young people ages 8-12 will relate to this story, which opens an unexpected door on history and the duty of remembrance. It is the first of a series entitled “Tails of War”
