Cradled between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic, the Medoc is bathed in a unique climate and light, fully deserving its reputation as the most beautiful wine producing region in the world.
This exceptional day tour will introduce you to the Médoc wines in all their glory from the most well known to the smaller family properties where you’ll gain an understanding of the life of a wine producer. We’ll stop at the big chateaux: Margaux, Mouton-Rothchild or Chateau Gruaud Larose as well as enjoying a more personal tour of a family run vineyard with a convivial atmosphere. Your chauffeur/guide speaks English, knows the region and its produce.
Throughout the day, you’ll learn to identify the different types of wines, the “appelations”, as well as the different types of grapes used, the “cépages” while visiting three chateaux: 1er Grand Cru, 2nd Grand Cru, and 4th Grand Cru. Lunch could either be at a Michelin starred table or a local bistrot dependent upon your preferences. During the wine tastings you’ll be able to accompany your wines with either cheese samples or the local sponge cake named “canelé”.
At the end of the day you’ll be familiar with the Médoc area and have gained a real knowledge of these fabulous wines.
