Cradled between the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic, the Medoc is bathed in a unique climate and light, fully deserving its reputation as the most beautiful wine producing region in the world.
At precisely the 45th parallel, with both micro-properties and vast wine estates, the temperate oceanic climate here encourages vine growth. The region owes its economic success mainly to the production of red wine; it is home to around 1,500 vineyards. It is known worldwide for its prestigious wine castles, to discover on the roads of Bordeaux wines in the Médoc. We also love for its long sandy beaches, great lakes and natural spaces for a total immersion in nature.
This exceptional day tour will introduce you to the famous Médoc wines in all their glory from the most well known to the smaller family properties where you will gain an understanding of the life of a wine producer. We will stop at the most beautiful Châteaux including: Margaux, Mouton-Rothchild or Château Gruaud Larose as well as enjoy a more personal tour of a family run vineyard with a convivial atmosphere. Your chauffeur/guide speaks English, knows the region and its produce.
Throughout the day, you will learn to identify the different types of wines, the “appelations”, as well as the different types of grapes used, the “cépages” while visiting three Châteaux: 1st Grand Cru, 2nd Grand Cru, and 4th Grand Cru. About lunch, it could either be at a Michelin starred table or a local bistrot dependent upon your preferences. During the wine tastings you will be able to accompany your wines with either cheese samples or the local sponge cake named “canelé”.
At the end of the day you will be familiar with the area and have gained a real knowledge of these fabulous wines.
