I will always remember the emotion on a mother and her son’s faces when they discovered the “little church near a small bridge”, which turned out to be at La Fière. Her father had recounted his experiences on his return to the US and had told her of how he had lost several of his friends there. As it was a place she hoped to visit with her family, I was delighted that I managed to pinpoint the location from his unit number.

During the tours of famous Norman port, my customers and i realise just how small the world is.
On the same day , my customers learnt that their ancestors took the boat to USA from a port in Normandy and that the father had already come to the same port when he was a child, during a family cruise, without realising the connexion; while on board he had received a birthday letter from the ship’s crew.
He had kept it as a souvenir ever since, and the fun fact is that the man who printed the letter was my father. We have kept in touch to continue sharing memories and more!

Each day as a tour guide, I enjoy a new human adventure. Last year, I was in charge of a retired American medic and his daughter. He was 96. I will always remember him saying “I want to walk to the top of the Mont St. Michel”. I replied “Why not Sir? But it’s gonna be hard, there are a lot of steps”. I wasn’t really reassured, but he insisted and I agreed. We took our time; his pace became mine and we did it! And to my greatest pleasure, we stayed in touch for a long time afterwards.
